The Mike Nicholas family’s ongoing relationship with Autry increases the quality of their lives and helps them better serve their clients at Nicholas Eye Clinic. Although none of the family attended class at Autry until after they had graduated from college, they are all committed life-long learners and value the training they—and their employees—receive at Enid’s CareerTech.
Family is important to Dr. Mike Nicholas. He and his son, Dr. Tom Nicholas, are partners in their business. Mike’s wife, Joan, is an optician there and Tom’s wife, Valerie, is their office “guru,” according to Mike. They enjoy working together and take pride in taking first-rate care of their patients.
Every adult family member has taken classes at Autry. Mike has taken cabinet making, small engine repair, tile laying and medical coding courses and has made new friends in every class. “Autry is my personal life learning program,” explains Mike. “I’m not through taking classes.”
Joan appreciates the way the computer classes are taught and credits her training at Autry to helping her better understand how to operate the PC at the office. Tom took the small engine class, and he and his parents enjoyed learning about storm spotting in a recent weather class. Valarie, who likes to tackle “do-it-yourself” projects around the house, learned to tile at Autry and then installed a new floor at her house.
“Autry’s main goal of training people to have an avocation so they can be productive citizens is all one could hope for,” says Mike. The family is pleased with the Autry students they have hired to work in the office.
The Nicholas family also values the cooking that the culinary students do. Many days, Mike and Joan have lunch on campus, which is just across the street from their Nicholas Eye Clinic. It is safe to say the family thinks that Autry is an asset to the community. “Not only would I recommend Autry, I have many times!” says Mike.
